Remember the news nobody wants to hear? I’ve come home from England to be with my family now. I’m so glad I did. Though we’ve got a bit of a way to go before being near the news. My uncle, who is terminally ill with cancer, lives in Pennsylvania. My parents and I will be driving up there starting tomorrow.
We’re facing a drive of several days. That may not be the most efficient way of getting up there, but it’s been a long time since we’ve had a family trip. I think we’re all looking forward to having this time together because it’s so rare to have it once you reach a certain age and have a permanent job and so forth.
I am grateful to have this time among family now. Not everyone would get the chance to do this, whether or not they live overseas, but of course that just creates a whole new level of hassle whenever that little homing beacon goes off and you know you need to be there. And now I am here.
